What is Californicus-System?- The predatory mite Amblyseius californicus against different spider mite species
- Translucent with a brown-orange spot in the shape of an X on its back
- Feeds on all stages of the two-spotted spider mite
- Controls pest mites such as the broad mite and the cyclamen mite
- Strong preference for the greenhouse spider mite, but also feeds on other mites, thrips and pollen
- Most effective at low prey density
- Less sensitive to warm and dry conditions
- Also tolerates colder conditions
- Survives on pollen and in the absence of prey it can even survive without food for a while
- Eats on average 5 prey a day
- Adults prefer eating larvae and nymphs of the greenhouse spider mite
- The larvae mainly eat the eggs of greenhouse spider mite
- Vegetable crops such as sweet pepper and eggplant
- Soft fruit such as strawberry
- Ornamental crops such as rose and chrysanthemum
- Tree nursery
