What is Chrysopa-System?- Also known as the green lacewing Chrysopa carnea
- Biological control of aphids by the larvae
- Adults can be recognised by their green metallic colour, large wings and golden eyes
- Also feeds on other insects such as mealybugs, spider mites, thrips, whitefly and other small caterpillars
- Remains active during a long period with lower temperatures and during the night
- Able to attack large prey
- The females lay up to 400 eggs on a stalk near the pests hot spots
- The larvae are biological control agents as the adults feed on nectar, honeydew and pollen
- They randomly search for prey and then suck them
- The larvae consume up to 50 aphids a day
- The last stage of the larvae is the most voracious one, responsible for 75% of total consumption
- Vegetable crops such as pepper and eggplant
- Soft fruit such as strawberry and raspberry
- Ornamental crops such as rose
